9 companies win Oyu Tolgoi Gobi Gem awards

Nine companies were named as Oyu Tolgoi’s best Mongolian suppliers in 2013 at the fifth ‘Gobi Gem - Supplier Recognition Awards’ ceremony in Ulaanbaatar last month. In 2013, Oyu Tolgoi spent $538.1 million on procurement in Mongolia which constitutes almost 76 per cent of total procurement. The miner claims its 949 national suppliers created a total of 35,000 jobs.

In his speech at the ceremony, the Chairman of the OT Board of Directors, G.Batsukh, told the assembles suppliers, “In addition to supplying goods and services you have learned and introduced to Mongolia the very best of international standards of quality, safety and labour relations. This is one example of the real benefits of working with Oyu Tolgoi and the benefits of living in Mongolia, learning in Mongolia and creating value in Mongolia.”
