Tavantolgoi Coal Loading Logistics Center is now fully operational

T.Byambanaran, P.Jargalsuren

The Tavantolgoi coal loading logistics center featuring fully automated engineering facilities has been established. This is a first for Mongolia. The center has the capacity to process 20 million tons of raw coal annually. The Erdenes Tavantolgoi Joint Stock Company (JSC) initiated the Coal Loading Logistics Center project in 2021 and commenced operations in the second quarter of 2024 following government approval.

The project has a total investment of 313.192 billion MNT, with the estimated cost of loading one ton of coal at 2353.9 MNT. Sales revenue is projected to reach 3.9 trillion MNT.

The center processes raw coal sourced from the West and East Tsankh mines within the Tavantolgoi deposit. It crushes, transports, sorts, and mixes the raw coal before supplying it to the Coal Enrichment plant of Erdenes Tavantolgoi JSC. Additionally, it prepares the coal for railway transportation through seven technological steps to load it into wagons.

The commissioning of the Tavantolgoi coal loading logistics center, equipped with a fully automatic system incorporating advanced engineering solutions, presents an opportunity to process coal that meets stringent quality standards. This advancement is pivotal for prolonging the operational lifespan of the Tavantolgoi deposit and mine, while economically leveraging low-quality coal resources.

Furthermore, the coal extracted from the Tavantolgoi group of deposits can be sold profitably by transporting it via the Tavantolgoi-Gashuunsukhait and Tavantolgoi-Zuunbayan railway lines. The center includes six essential operational units: Wagon Loader, Crusher, Belt Conveyor, Auxiliary Equipment, Stacker, and Feeder, supported by infrastructure such as buildings, roads, energy supply, and automation systems.
