The Prime Minister of Mongolia, L. Oyun-Erdene, held a meeting with Shen Minjuan, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Mongolia, and Kang Fengwei, Deputy General Manager of the China Energy Group.
During the meeting, they discussed the Gashuunsukhait-Gantsmod border railway connection project. The Government of China officially expressed its readiness to resolve the border connection project of the Gashuunsukhait-Gantsmod port through an international agreement between the two governments.
The Gashuunsukhait-Gantsmod border railway connection project has been under discussion since 2009 and was stalled for 16 years. It was revived on November 5, 2024, during the official visit of the Prime Minister of Mongolia, L. Oyun-Erdene, to China, when the two sides signed the Agreement between the Government of Mongolia and the Government of China on the Construction of the Gashuunsukhait-Gantsmod Cross-Border Railway.
The implementation of this project will pave the way for completing other projects, such as the Khangi-Mandal, Shiveekhuren-Sekhe, and Bichigt-Zuunkhatavch railways. Additionally, it will create a tangible opportunity to increase Mongolia's coal exports to 120 million tons and raise the per capita GDP to USD 10,000.
